Adjustment/Manipulation

Adjustment/Manipulation

Here at Back in Line Chiropractic, we provide a variety of treatments for our patients. Among them are adjustments and manipulations, which are a common chiropractic care treatment. Many pain and injury issues our patients deal with are linked to the body being out of balance -- which is frequently due to a lack of alignment in their spine. Vertebrae in the spine can become misaligned and affect not only the back, but nearly every process in the body, since everything is connected.

Adjustments, also known as manipulations, help move the vertebrae in the spine so that it is more properly aligned. This is done through manual manipulation by our chiropractor, Dr. LaDonna Bense, and can help with everything from back and shoulder pain to headaches to neck pain. Once one area of the body is improved, the nervous system is more balanced, helping with other issues as well.

We encourage all patients with any type of pain or discomfort to visit our Dallas, GA chiropractic office for adjustments and manipulations. If you think your pain might be due to your spine or are simply looking for natural alternatives, contact us today and schedule your first appointment. When you call, ask us about our new patient specials.

Muscle Pain

Muscle Pain

Muscle pain is a common occurrence among patients of Back in Line Chiropractic, and can be the result of many causes. Some patients have muscle pain and soreness from an overuse of the muscles, while others have chronic tension, sprains or other forms of injury or trauma. Chiropractic care for muscle pain helps patients find relief and acts as a great preventative measure with continued treatments.

Dr. LaDonna Bense offers the following chiropractic treatment options for muscle pain:

1. Therapeutic Massage – This type of massage helps to relieve the tension in the muscles by loosening them. With the relief of tension, the pain starts to subside.

2. Adjustments – Adjustments help realign the spine and can help with all types of pain, including muscle pain. In some patients, the muscle pain is actually a result of discs in the spine that are not aligned properly.

3. Exercise Tips – Dr. Bense also offers advice and tips for exercise, warm-ups and stretching to prevent further pain and soreness. Exercise is great for getting the blood circulating to ease muscle pain.

4. Dietary Recommendations - Our chiropractor also provides nutrition and diet advice to reduce and prevent muscle pain.

Patients who visit our Dallas, GA chiropractic office find that the more often they get chiropractic treatments, the less muscle pain they experience over time. This is because with chiropractic care, the body begins learning how to heal itself, reducing possible injuries.

Contact us at 770-505-5665 to find out more about our treatment solutions for muscle pain.

Nutrition

Nutrition

Chiropractic care provides more than relief from pain, soreness and injuries; it can also be effective at helping people lose weight. Here at Back In Line Chiropractic, we provide tips and treatments to help with improving nutrition and losing weight. Poor nutrition can add to various types of pain, damage to the muscular system, strains and other types of injuries. Malnutrition can be caused by not consuming enough nutritional foods, or overconsumption of bad foods. This creates more physical stress on the body, and leads to pain and possible injury.

Dr. LaDonna Bense believes that chiropractic care should include nutrition education to help prevent many of the injuries and cases of chronic pain her patients experience. She provides help and tips for her patients who want to learn about nutrition, what they should be eating, and how their diet affects their body’s ability to heal. This includes encouraging eating and drinking food and beverages chock-full of antioxidants, which helps reduce aches and pains, as well foods and herbs that have anti-inflammatory medicinal properties, like ginger and pomegranates.

We provide consultant appointments for patients who are having pain or strains and can’t find the root cause of it. For many of them, their nutrition is the culprit. Find out more about nutrition in Dallas, GA by calling us today.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine that involves using thin needles in different acupuncture points of the body. Needling these various acupuncture points can stimulate the body’s nervous system to release chemicals in the brain, spinal cord, and muscles.

Many patients come to Back In Line Chiropractic for acupuncture for treating medical conditions and reducing pain. It can help with respiratory, digestive, neurological, muscular and fertility disorders, aside from helping with chronic pain or discomfort. Some patients in Dallas, GA get acupuncture to coincide with their physician’s plan for treating a disorder, while others simply want an alternative to painkillers for the pain they experience every day.

Before your first acupuncture appointment, Dr. LaDonna Bense recommends the following:

  • Don’t eat a large meal before acupuncture treatment.

  • Don’t drink alcoholic beverages up to six hours before treatment.

  • Make time for rest at home following the appointment.

  • Continue following your physician’s instructions, such as taking prescribed medications.

  • Don’t engage in strenuous physical activity before getting acupuncture.

As long as patients follow these tips, and the others provided by Dr. Bense, they can find acupuncture very useful. Some patients will visit us for a single visit, while others continue getting acupuncture on a regular basis. Contact our office 770-505-5665 to find out more about the benefits of this type of treatment.

Chiropractic Massage

Chiropractic Massage

The body’s central nervous system is responsible for a lot more than people realize. That is why many patients come to Back In Line Chiropractic for insomnia, surgery recovery or chronic pain, and find that what they are really struggling with is a problem with their nervous system. Chiropractic massage is a great method for helping strengthen and balance the nervous system, which then can improve circulation, increase flexibility, and help with the connective tissues of the body. Chiropractic massage is also helpful in the healing and recovery process -- not to mention its soothing capabilities on the mind.

Many patients who get chiropractic massage from Dr. LaDonna Bense find their pain reduced and that they start experiencing less injuries and problems over time. They no longer have the same repetitive motion injuries from their job, their headaches are gone, they sleep better and they have outstanding physical and emotional relaxation. This is because massage in our clinic helps the body to begin healing itself from the inside, out.

Chiropractic massage helps not just with injuries, pain, strains or sore muscles, but also with overall body wellness and health. Call us today at 770-505-5665 or visit our website www.yourbackinlinenow.com to book your Dallas, GA chiropractic massage.

Is Knee Surgery The Answer?

Is Knee Surgery the Answer?

exercise and fitness image
Interestingly, those who thought they received surgery but didn’t, improved as much as those who did.

You hear about so many people today having knee surgery after suffering through years of chronic pain due to sports injuries or osteoarthritis. They may have tried pain medication (over-the-counter and prescription strength), massage therapy, bed rest, heat and ice application, even cortisone injections – but the pain continues. It often worsens to the point where the doctor indicates that a surgical solution is the only answer. But is it?

Interesting story:

A study was conducted involving 180 patients, divided into three groups, who were told they required arthroscopic surgery on a knee to relieve pain and stiffness due to osteoarthritis. Arthroscopic surgery involves an incision into the knee to remove worn cartilage. The first group had surgery called arthroscopic debridement, which removes worn or loose cartilage. The second group had arthroscopic lavage, which flushes painful debris and inflammatory enzymes out from the knee. The third group was all prepped and an incision into the knee was made, but no cartilage was removed.

All three groups were followed and assessed at regular intervals over the next two years and at the end of that time, all groups reported “equal degrees of reduction in pain and increase in activity level.” Interesting, isn’t it? Yet, more than 650,000 of these same procedures are performed each year and, sometimes, healthy cartilage is removed with the worn cartilage, causing even further damage to the patient.

Is there an alternative?

Yes there is – and while surgery may be an option, it should always be the last resort. Chiropractic care offers a non-invasive alternative to drugs and surgery for the type of knee pain cause by osteoarthritis. We recognize that knee pain can be related to pelvic imbalances and spinal problems higher up the spine. Correcting these misalignments often resolve knee pain and ankle problems without the risk of surgery.

Please keep in mind that our practice is committed to helping you live a way of life that focuses on healing and preventing health problems. We don’t believe in masking symptoms with medication or advising that you engage in needless surgery when your body may be fully capable of healing itself.

Are you really sick?

Wellness

To visit the doctor when you’re feeling great is something new. Yet, a growing number of people who want to be and do their best are visiting chiropractors on a regular basis.

Fever.
Most of us learned to think that having symptoms means you’re sick. But what about pre-symptomatic health problems?

The First Symptom

Remember staying home from school when we were sick and returning when we were feeling better? We learned to think of being sick as having obvious symptoms. But these days, many health problems are the result of lifestyle choices that don't always have obvious symptoms until the effects are well advanced.

Healthy Response

The reverse is true as well. If you eat improperly prepared food and find yourself vomiting to expel it, you probably won’t feel good, but you’re having a healthy response.

Turns out that true health is how well our bodies work, not how we feel.

Central Control

How well our body functions is based upon the integrity of our nervous system. That’s why so many seek our practice for wellness care. They want to make sure that every organ and tissue has an uninterrupted nerve supply. It just makes sense to detect little problems before they become serious concerns.

The Key to Health

True health is optimum physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Drinking more water, eating nutritious foods, regular exercise and virtually every other healthy habit produces even bigger dividends when you have a properly working nervous system.

Although everyone wants to feel good, your care should not be based on whether you have pain or other symptoms. Vertebral subluxation complexes may exist without obvious symptoms. Just like dental cavities, high blood pressure or heart disease.

Chiropractic Has Better Results and is More Cost Effective on Low Back Pain

A release by the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP) cites new studies showing that chiropractic care is not only more effective for helping people suffering from lower back problems, but is also more affordable. The F4CP release dated, April 08, 2013, cites the results of two recent studies documenting the chiropractic advantage for patients with lower back problems.

Gerard Clum, D.C., spokesperson for the F4CP commented on one of the studies by saying, "Chiropractic care is a cost-effective, evidence-based approach that is well-documented for its outstanding patient outcomes and satisfaction scores." The study he referenced was published on April 1, 2013 in the medical journal Spine, which found that spinal manipulation (as the study authors termed it) was significantly better than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug diclofenac and clinically superior to placebo for patients with acute non-specific low back pain. Dr. Clum added, "When used as a primary treatment option for back pain, chiropractic can boost avoidance of risky and costly measures, and promote equal or greater clinical outcomes."

The second study referenced by the F4CP release was published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics in January 2013. The study titled, "Aging baby boomers and the rising cost of chronic back pain: secular trend analysis of longitudinal Medical Expenditures Panel Survey data for years 2000 to 2007," showed that with the common (medical) care of chronic lower back problems the costs will continue to escalate. The author concluded, "The prevalence of back pain, especially chronic back pain, is increasing. To the extent that the growth in chronic back pain is caused, in part, by an aging population, the growth will likely continue or accelerate. With relatively high cost per adult with chronic back pain, total expenditures associated with back pain will correspondingly accelerate under existing treatment patterns."

The F4CP makes the point that utilization of chiropractic care presents opportunities for improved patient outcomes and decreased costs. Dr. Clum emphasizes the point that chiropractic would lower the cost of chronic lower back care as well as overall healthcare by saying, "To improve the system, it will be essential that patient care approaches with clinical and economic advantages -- such as chiropractic care -- be the focal point of progressive healthcare and health policy discussions."

How to benefit from a CHIROPRACTIC adjustment

Many individuals suffer from pains in the neck, shoulders and back. One of the best things to do when you experience such problems is to seek chiropractic care. A professional chiropractor can give you an alignment that involves manipulation of the spine and the vertebrae that surround it. The chiropractor may also use special pads that emit heat and actually massage your neck and shoulders. He or she may also recommend that you buy a special cervical pillow that will benefit your neck and spine. You can benefit from the adjustments and by following certain exercises the doctor recommends you do. It may improve your posture as well as your overall health and the way you feel physically. Contact Back In Line Chiropractic Spine & Injury Specialist for assistance.

Do you know what the best position for sleeping is??

The position in which you sleep at night can cause back pain, neck pain or other discomfort. Altering your position in bed can reduce these symptoms and help you get a great night of sleep.

Laying on your back is one of the best positions for restful sleep. When on your back, it is easy for your spine, head and neck to maintain a neutral position. No extra curves are forced on the back, and acid reflux may reduced by the position. However, people who snore may do so more often when sleeping on their backs. Overall, the back position is best for sleeping, but the side position takes second place. This position elongates the spine and reduces snoring. It can also reduce acid reflux, but not as well as sleeping on the back. The worst position for sleeping is on the stomach. Sleeping in this position can lead to excess pressure on the muscles and joints, causing numbness, pain and tingling.

For more suggestions on how to get the most restful sleep, talk to the experts at the Back In Line Chiropractic Spine & Injury Specialist. Changing your sleeping position can reduce or eliminate many symptoms, including pain, acid reflux and snoring.

Posture while at the computer... what many people do not know.

People who work in offices are spending more and more time at the computer, and more and more people are also using their computers at home for entertainment purposes. If you are using your computer for hours at at time, make sure that you are sitting at it correctly. Sitting at your computer in a sloppy way can lead to pain later on. First, remember that keeping everything at 90 degrees is key. your torso should be at a 90 degree angle from your thighs, and your thighs should be at a 90 degree angle from your shins. Your elbows should be bent at a 90 degree angle as your type, though your wrists should stay as level as possible.

Remember that you should be sitting at a chair that supports your lower back. This is one area that can get very sore if you are not careful. If at all possible, sit up straight. Slouching puts more strain on your muscles over time. Simply correct yourself every time you notice that you are slouching. When you are worried about pain from sitting at a computer all day, consider good posture at your computer chair. Be sure to ask the pros at Back In Line Chiropractic Spine & Injury Specialist for more tips
